One Click Demo Import

Installing and activating a WordPress theme is simple. However, adding content can be time consuming. We vastly improved this process with the updated Restaurant Theme. Now, the theme includes support for the One Click Demo Import plugin. Meaning, all content, media, and options are imported exactly as it appears in the theme demo. With the click of a button. Simple!

Importing demo content will save loads of time when it comes to the setup of your website. The demo content is a guide. It can be replaced or deleted as needed.

Gutenberg Support

Version 5 of the Restaurant Theme features full compatibility with the Gutenberg block editor. The theme features conditional sidebars, full and wide alignment support, editor styles, and several block styles for perfect integration with the new WordPress editor.

Organic Themes has worked directly with the makers of Gutenberg. As partners of WordPress.com, the Restaurant Theme has undergone a rigorous code review process to ensure maximum compatibility of the theme with Gutenberg.

Additionally, the theme works perfectly with the new Organic Blocks Bundle plugin. So, you can add slideshows, testimonials, portfolios, and much more on any page or post using the Gutenberg editor. Cool!

Improved Menu Post Type

The Restaurant Theme contains a custom post type for adding food and drink menu items. In previous theme versions, menu items were displayed by applying the “Menu” page template. Then, choosing your food menu categories within the theme options. It worked. However, there were limitations. So, we improved the process of displaying food menu items with the latest theme update.

With Version 5, menu items automatically display in order on the custom post type template. As seen in the demo here.

The custom post type template automatically orders menu items by category. However, you may change the order of menu items using the Custom Taxonomy Order plugin.

Add the “/menu/” page extension to the URL of your website to view the menu custom post type template. For instance, https://mycafe.net/menu/. Then, use a custom link in your website navigation to access the menu.

The new custom post type template provides much more flexibility than the menu page template options. It allows for the display of endless categories.

Countless Additional Updates

The Restaurant Theme has been available for several years. It’s in use by literally thousands and thousands of restaurant websites. Organic Themes maintains our products to take advantage of the latest web technologies and WordPress features. As a result, the theme has evolved considerably. Version 5 is no exception.

We inspected the code line by line. We made several updates to the security, styles, functionality, and mobile display of the theme. Now, it features a beautiful new mobile menu navigation, accessibility updates, a new logo resizer option, and several more improvements.

Most improvements maintain backwards compatibility with older versions of the theme. However, this is a major update. As a result, you may need to enter the WordPress Customizer, and re-save your theme options after updating. Otherwise, it should be a smooth transition. All your content and templates will remain unaffected by updating to the most recent theme version.

The Problem With Most Photography Themes

Many WordPress photography themes suffer from a number of pitfalls:

1. Full-browser width images that lose quality on large screens and retina devices.
2. Large images that take considerable time to load, losing the interest of prospective clients.

We updated the Photographer Theme with these principles in mind.

We kept the minimal design of the previous version. However, we gave it a shave and a haircut. Meaning, we tightened up the design with cleaner lines, better fonts, and ample spacing to let your work breathe. The clean design lends itself to customization. So, with a few simple changes, your website will match your brand.

In order to retain image quality, the images throughout the theme do not exceed certain widths. This also improves load time. As a result, the Photographer Theme utilizes the browser window to frame your work. Giving your photography a sophisticated presentation.

The theme update also avoids flashy design elements and animation. Instead, it features an elegant and minimal design that’s easy to navigate. As a result, your work is appreciated without distraction.

Hover Titles And Excerpts

In the previous theme version, the post title and excerpt displayed beneath the featured image on portfolio pages. Often, customers requested to hide that information.

With the recent update, post content is hidden until hovering over the image. It’s a subtle change, but one that keeps visitors focused on the photography. View a portfolio page in the demo here.

Endless Content Slideshows

The Photographer Theme has always featured endless image slideshows using the “Slideshow” page template. On the other hand, content slideshows were limited.

Not anymore.

With a content slideshow, each slide links to a page. Now, you may create endless content slideshows.

This updated feature utilizes the Jetpack portfolio custom post type. Each portfolio “Project Type” may be added to your menu as a content slideshow. As a result, there is no limit to your slideshow ambitions. View an example in the demo here.

Absolute Centered Slideshows

Once upon a time, photographers used Flash websites to showcase their online portfolios. Eventually, and for good reason, HTML websites replaced Flash. Although, I did miss one aspect of Flash websites. The ability to easily center all content within the browser window.

With an HTML website, centering content both horizontally AND vertically has always been a challenge, until recently. Now, all modern browsers support CSS flexbox layouts. So, designers, artists, and photographers can have their work centered once again!

The latest version of the Photographer Theme centers all slideshow pages within the browser window. As a result, the images within the slideshow are always the center of attention.

Improved Theme Options

In the latest theme update, we stripped out non-essential options and functions. As a result, the setup is fast and simple.

There are a few added options. Now, you can change fonts throughout the theme. Additionally, there are options to change the header layout. As with all Organic Themes, options are managed in the WordPress Customizer.

Additional Improvements

The updated Photographer Theme vastly improves upon the previous WooCommerce integration. As a result, selling your photography and services online is easier than ever. Plus, your shop will blend in perfectly with the rest of your site.

The theme is also optimized for the Gutenberg editor. It features support wide and full alignment blocks, and custom block styles. Plus, the editor styles and fonts match the front-end of your site.

Last but not least, the home page slideshow features new options. Now, multiple posts can display on each slide. So, your home slideshow can be used as a tool to guide visitors through your website.

Adventure is the perfect WordPress theme for travel blogs and adventure companies. The original design resonated with that culture. So, we held true to that design with this update. As they say, “If ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” While the design changes were subtle, the bigger improvements are under the hood.

New Font Options

Previously, the theme used primarily the Roboto font. That font lends itself well to the modern aesthetic, and we kept it as the default typeface. However, what if you wanted to try other fonts? It previously required additional plugins and custom CSS.

Now, you can choose from several quality Google Fonts within the customizer theme options. We hand-picked several Google fonts and pairings designed to work with the Adventure Theme. Change fonts for the site title, navigation menus, headings and body. Additionally, you can see those changes in real-time within the customizer preview window.

Custom Logo and Resizer

The WordPress custom logo functionality has been added to version 3 of the theme. Additionally, after uploading your logo image, you can quickly resize the logo to your liking within the customizer.

For users that are upgrading from an older theme version, we kept the legacy logo image option as well. However, we moved the older option to the Site Identity section of the customizer. Please keep in mind, the logo resizer is designed to work the new logo option.

Improved WooCommerce Integration

If selling products is part of your adventure, than you will definitely benefit from this update. WooCommerce has been very tightly integrated with the latest version of the Adventure Theme.

WooCommerce has undergone several major updates since being acquired by Automattic. Now, options for the powerful eCommerce plugin are located within the WordPress customizer. The result is a seamless setup experience between the Adventure Theme and the plugin.

Gutenberg Block Support

In preparation for the future of WordPress, the Adventure Theme update includes support for Gutenberg blocks. Rest assured that your theme will transition seamlessly the next major WordPress update.

For those in the dark, Gutenberg represents the new WordPress content editor that will be rolled out with WordPress 5.0. It’s a fundamental shift in the way content will be added within the platform. Each content type will be added in the form of a “block”, and blocks can be individually manipulated and moved. All Organic Themes will be compatible with Gutenberg. However, only the more recent themes and updates will support all Gutenberg features.

Customizer Widgets Home Page Template

A new home page template is included with the latest update. It features a widetized section for adding Organic Customizer Widgets. So, building a dynamic home page is simple! Create a variety of content sections such as content slideshows, feature lists, background video sections, and much more!

Organic Customizer Widgets is a free plugin from Organic Themes. It transforms the WordPress customizer into a simple page builder using custom widgets. The 12 custom widgets each serve a unique purpose for displaying content. The widgets are easily manipulated and dragged into position within the customizer. It’s a simple, effective, lightweight way of building custom pages without bulky, proprietary page builder plugins.

One Click Demo Import

Typically, importing demo content is a pain. After importing the content, it still requires setup and configuration within the theme options. That’s no longer an issue with the new Adventure Theme!

The latest version features compatibility with the One Click Demo Import plugin. As a result, all content, settings, customizer options and widgets are imported within moments of clicking the import button. There is no need to fumble with options or setup widgets afterwards. Your website will exactly like the demo.

Security Updates and Tweaks

Beyond the major improvements, there have also been several minor tweaks and cleanup. For instance, escaping has been added where missing for security purposes. Also, prefixes for functions have been updated to include the theme name, to reduce the possibility of any plugin conflicts. The Purpose Theme has received its first major update since its release. We simply improved upon an already great theme. Take a look at the new demo and improvements below.

Enhanced Customizer Experience

The Purpose Theme already utilized the WordPress customizer for theme options. However, we have further extended the functionality by adding new options and partials. So featured sections can be selected and edited within the customizer simply by clicking on them in the preview window. In addition, we have added several more color options to the featured home page sections that update in real-time. Overall, we have improved the customizer experience for a fast and simple theme setup process.

Custom Header Video

Custom header videos were introduced with the release of WordPress 4.7. We have integrated this new functionality into the Purpose Theme. So now you can upload a video of your choosing, or simply paste a link to a YouTube video in order to display a full-width background video header. Do it all within the WordPress customizer to watch the changes take place in real-time!

Starter Content

WordPress 4.7 also introduced starter content as a much needed solution. When new users install a theme on a new WordPress installation for the first time, there has historically been a disconnect between what the users see in the theme demo, and what they see upon first activation. This has always been a disappointing aspect of the user experience that theme developers have tried to address through imperfect solutions such as importing demo content. Starter content is a big step in the right direction to improving this experience.

When activating Purpose on a fresh WordPress installation, enter the customizer to see your site pre-populated with a few example pages, custom menus, sample logo and header. All of the starter content can be used as a guide, and changed quickly and easily within the customizer.

Split Content Page Template

Purpose has a new Split Content page template. The featured image is fixed on the left of the browser window, and your scrolling content displays on the right.

It’s Better All-Around

In addition to the major integrations, we have significantly cleaned up the existing code base. Depreciated code has been removed. Scripts and styles have been updated. New fonts weights and icons have been added. The header has been reworked to use CSS flexbox for a more reliable positioning of the logo and menu. Overall, it’s a huge improvement for new and existing customers.
